Lydia Eva was built large enough to act as a trawler outside the herring season when smaller ships had to be laid up. When WW2 broke out, she was requisitioned for the RAF to act as a rescue vessel. In 1947, she was bought and re-named Watchman and remained in service until the 1970s in much modified form. In 1975, she was bought for preservation & restoration and has been restored to original condition as a museum ship, the last remaining herring drifter.
