Roger Smith OO CKIT16 Factory Building Low Relief Card Kit
Roger Smith Card Model Kit CKIT16 Low Relief Factory
Low relief buildings are part-depth structures designed to fit against a backscene and break up the joint between 'ground' and 'sky' at the back of the layout with a physical 3D structure.
This kit builds a section of a curtain wall type building, a style of construction much favoured in the early 20th century using thick pillars and steel columns to provide structral stength and allowing large windows to be inserted between the pillars. This maximised the natural light entering the building during the day, reducing the need for artifical lighting.
This type of structure is ideal for depicting industrial areas and factories alongside a railway line and sidings to serve them.
A second kit, CKIT17 is available, this being a similar building with a loading bay door.
