Scenecraft 44-118 00 Gauge Platform Subway Stairwell Canopy Great Central Railway
A detailed, finished and painted model of a glazed canopy cover over a subway entrance stairway, providing passengers with sheltered access to platforms from a pedestrian subway or public road passing below the railway. Based on the designs of the Great Central Railway.
Many stations needed a bridge or subway to allow passengers to access or change platforms safely. The Great Central Railway built many of its' railway stations with island platforms, one platform serving up trains on one side and down trains on the other, with public access from a road pasing over or under the railway at one end of the station. These subway entrance canopys were provided to sheletr passengers as they climbed the stairs from a road below the railway or from the subway connecting other platforms at larger stations.
