A nicely detailed model of the standard GWR design of guard's brake van, with the distinctive large enclosed verandah painted in the British Railways goods grey livery.
The ex-GWR brake vans were gradually withdrawn from general use under BR ownership as the brake wheel was outside the cabin, but many continued in service on Western region anyway. This van is labelled as being allocated to Newton Abbott and being in restricted use (RU) on goods trains around it's South Devon depot.
Later the engineers found the enclosed verandahs to be most useful for the secure storage of tools etc, resulting the GWR vans being found all over the BR network well into the 1980s!
