Hornby OO R6980 GWR Siphon H 1433 Milk, Parcels & Theatrical Scenery Van

The GWR SIPHON vans were built as milk vans to convey milk in churns at passenger train speeds, but proved very useful as passenger luggage and parcels vans. Developed from the gangwayed Siphon G the Siphon H had a higher roof profile and large end doors, suitable for loading large theatrical scenery and later motor vehicles.

Although the end door equipped Siphon H would appear to be a useful vehicle the GWR had a range of 4-wheeled and bogie vans built to maximum loading gauge limits for carrying scenery and the lack of a through gangway made the Siphon H less useful than the Siphon G for general luggage and parcels service attached to passenger trains. While many more gangwayed Siphon G vans were built only one design of Siphon H was constructed.
