These useful class 3 engines were capable of hauling light passenger and goods trains, ideal for local pick-up goods train service. Developed from older and less powerful engines these locomotives lasted well into the British Railways era. Enthusiasts know them best from the Somerset and Dorset line, featuring in Sir John Betjemans' film of the line to Burnham-on-Sea. The Bachmann model if powered by a motor hidden inside the boiler and firebox, with a diecast chassis providing adequate weight for realistic trains to be hauled. The model is nicely controllable, allowing shunting to be undertaken at steady slow speeds.Locomotive 43257 is painted in the early British Railways black livery with lion over wheel emblem. Era 4.
