A free running OO9 model featuring plenty of detail with separately fitted brake hangers, brake levers and vacuum pipes.

The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway was well equipped with, by narrow gauge standards, large 4-wheel open wagons and box vans supplied by the Bristol Railway Carriage and Wagon Company. At 4 tons capacity the open wagons were roughly half the capacity of a standard gauge coal wagons of the same period and well suited to the delivery of coal and agricultural goods on the narrow gauge line.

Trains of slate wagons used to be gravity run from the quarries at Blaenau Ffestiniog to the harbour at Porthmadoc, this model pack is of 3 unbraked vehicles and has removable slate loads which are conveniently hollow, thus giving the modeller the added option of including some further weight if required.

Roughly one in five wagons was fitted with brakes. These were spread throughout the train and turned so the brake handles were all on the same side of the train, pointing towards Porthmadog. Different colours painted on the side bars denoted the various slate quarry companies; our packs feature random selections of these.
As these wagons tend to run in long rakes, the models have semi-permanent close-couplings fitted in their NEM pockets. These can be pulled out with fine nosed pliers and replaced with conventional OO-9 hoop-and-loop couplings (supplied) at each end of the rake.

Peco OO9 GR-330 Side Tipping Skip Wagon - Grey

Robert Hudson Ltd of Leeds are one of the best-known British suppliers of industrial narrow gauge and contractors' railway equipment. The 'Rugga' skip was probably their most numerous product, with several hundred still to be found on narrow gauge heritage lines, often still delivering ballast for the permanent way gang!

The familiar Rugga V-Skip tipping wagon design was introduced in the 1930s, developed from earlier designs dating back to the earliest railways and similar wagons ordered from Hudsons for WW1 trench railway requirements. They could be supplied to the customer's specific requirements with a skip size ranging from 13.5 to 54 cubic feet (0.38 to 1.53 cubic metres) and in most track gauges. The company boasted that at any one time several thousand could be supplied from stock!
The design allows the skip to tip in either direction, perfect for small industrial railways that needed to move and unload materials quickly and efficiently.

The Peco models are supplied in packs or 3 skips, complete with integral OO9 loop couplers designed for prototypical close coupling. This pack is finished with a grey painted body, one of the standard colours applied to a newly delivered or unusually well maintained skip (eg a preserved example).

Small 4-wheel coaches were the usual choice for narrow gauge railways, being well suited to the small gauge and sharp curvature of many of these lines.
This freelance model of a guards' brake and luggage van is based on the Glyn Valley Tramway coach design, so matches well with the GVT coaches and can also be used as a goods train brake van.

Peco are usually able to supply us with their models quickly, please allow 14 days for delivery.

After WW1 two Baldwin 4-6-0T engines (as modelled by Bachmann) provided the main motive power for the line.

These models of narrow gauge trains are scaled for use alongside British OO and European HO scale standard gauge trains and run on 9mm N gauge track. British outline models are described as OO9 for OO scale for 9mm gauge, European models are described as HOe, HO scale but running on 9mm N gauge track. Due to the size of the models, great variety in prototypes and the widespread sale of locomotives and sometimes rolling stock across Europe, as can been seen by the stock of the preserved Welshpool Llanfair line, the two scales and design styles can be mixed to create an interesting roster of models.

We can supply models for the full Peco, Parkside Dundas, and Liliput ranges, though we have listed just a core selection here. Please contact us by telephone on 01453 825381 or email enquiries@antics.ltd.uk if your choice of models is not listed.
