Peco N NR-P77W 45-Ton Oil Tank Wagon Black Weathered
A weathered black 45-ton type air braked oil tank wagon.
After the oil companies generally removed their name placards from oil tank wagons the companys seemed to feel there was no need to maintain a good public image by keeping the wagons clean. In the late 1970s and early 80s a typical oil wagon quickly gained a filthy appearance from minor spillages during loading.
Eventually British Rail recognised the potential safety hazards created by these trains of dirty, oily wagons and mandated a clean-up, resulting in new liveries recognisable as belonging to a particular company.
Block trains carrying specialised loads are a feature of the modern railway. All Peco wagons feature free running wheels in pin point axles. The ELC coupling, whilst compatible with the standard N gauge couplings, keeps a realistic distance between vehicles and enables the PL-25 electro magnetic decoupler to be used for remote uncoupling.
