Bachmann Scenecraft OO Gauge 44-0055 GWR Pagoda Waiting Shelter and Corrugated Iron Storage Shed

Two useful GWR station buildings ideal for detailing a wayside station or as additions to a larger station complex.
Constructed from corrugated iron the GWR made several pre-fabricated buildings which could be quickly supplied and errected wherever required.
The pagoda design structure was erected as a waiting shelter at minor stations and halts and as a second shelter in place of a more substantial structure on the 'other' platform at passing stations. The pagoda could also used as general storeage building, which was the designed purpose of the second building in this set with a plain round roof and double doors. These buildings were used as store sheds at larger stations, but many smaller stations were provided with one as a secure goods store.

A detailed, finished and painted model of a glazed canopy cover over a subway entrance stairway, providing passengers with sheltered access to platforms from a pedestrian subway or public road passing below the railway. Based on the designs of the Great Central Railway.

Many stations needed a bridge or subway to allow passengers to access or change platforms safely. The Great Central Railway built many of its' railway stations with island platforms, one platform serving up trains on one side and down trains on the other, with public access from a road pasing over or under the railway at one end of the station. These subway entrance canopys were provided to sheletr passengers as they climbed the stairs from a road below the railway or from the subway connecting other platforms at larger stations.

Fully painted cast resin models of a typical small station yard crane and loading gauge.

These hand-worked cranes were able to lift loads of up to about 2-tons, which would not have been possible to lift by hand and were often erected in town station goods yards where the volume of business required mechanical handling.
Loading gauges were erected at almost all goods yards, being used to check that a wagons' load would fit within the height and width restrictions imposed by bridges etc.

To match the concrete locomotive coaling plant Bachmann are releasing a detailed model of the locomotive ash storage tower from the same period. Closely based on the sole remaining example at Carnforth engine shed, the ash tower was used to store locomotive ash and dump this into open wagons positioned beneath. This mechanical handling saved a lot of back-breaking shovelling. A light texture finish will be applied to simulate the concrete construction of the original with painting and weathering applied by hand. Catwalks, handrails and ladders will also be included.
