Graham Farish N 373-786 Triple Pack 45 Ton glw TTA Tank Wagon Weed Killing Train

These three TTA type tank wagons were used as water carriers in the formation of the Hunslet-Barclay weed killing trains of the early 1990s.

A steady supply of water is required to create a sprayable weed killer, so the weed killing train needed to take a substantial supply to perform a days' spraying on the main line.
Bachmann are producing a pair of the Hunslet-Barclay class 20 locomotives (371-035) and a pack of teo Mk.1 coaches (374-992) used to carry the spary aparatus and operators in the weed killing train.

The HEA design hopper was constructed to replace the life expired 1950s HTV design on domestic coal deliveries with a new vehicle, capable to travelling safely at higher speeds.

The steady closure of domestic coal concentration depots in the 1990s saw the HEA hoppers redeployed on coal delivery to small consumers (ie. smaller than power stations!) and put to use as barrier wagons. An empty HEA hopper would often be seen on each end of an oil train for example.

A new model of the BR FNA air-braked nuclear flask carrier wagon with enclosed canopy.

These wagons were carefully designed to suit the safety requirements of the nuclear industry. The body has clean, flat faces allowing for easy cleaning as most surfaces are self-draining. The flask itself is accomodated under an enclosed hood, helping reduce the effect of changes in weather, including the heating of direct sunlight.

This model is of one of the early build of this design with flat floors and round buffers. This version has the load/empty brake changeover valve mounted on the outside of the flat bodyside.

The 45-tonne TTA type tank wagons is a very flexible wagon type, the code covering a range of different sized wagons, but commonly used for bulk petrochemicals. This design with end ladders provides the maximum size of barrel which can be fitted into the British loading gauge and is designed for a range of  low density gas and oil products, many of which are carried as a liquid under pressure.

This model is finished as a wagon in service with ICI conveying methanol.

The last built of the general service air braked open wagons, the steel sided OCA open wagons were strong and robust vehicles, suitable for a wide range of loads.

Many OCA wagons were transferred to the engineering fleet following a downturn in rail freight business, often without repainting. This allowed older wagons to be eliminated from the wagon fleet, but many of these wagons have since returned to revenue traffic use with EWS.

EWS ordered these high capacity open gondola wagons to replace older 4-wheel open wagons, the high sides allowing a wide range of commodities to be carried. Two types exist,'outer' wagons equiped with standard buffers and drawgear and 'inner' wagons fitted with knuckle couplers only which can be coupled toclass 66 locomotives.

The Graham Farish MBA and MOA Megabox wagons are fitted with NEM couplings. The wagon ends includes etched plates and the underside is fully detailed with pipe work and brake equipment.

Graham Farish N 377-877 Queen Mary Brake Van EWS Weathered
    New model announced 2015

A detailed model of the Southern Railways' bogie goods brake vans. These vans were introduced to ensure the guard had a smooth-riding vehicle suitable for travel at the higher speeds of express goods and parcels trains. The commodious accomodations and enclosed verandahs were also appreciated by the engineers, who made good use of these vans as riding, messing and equipment/tool carriers until the 1990s.
Several are now preserved and used to offer brake van rides during heritage railway gala days.

This model is painted in EWS maroon livery with a weathered finish.

    (Product Ref #3046)
A weathered black 45-ton type air braked oil tank wagon.

After the oil companies generally removed their name placards from oil tank wagons the companys' seemed to feel there was no need to maintain a good public image by keeping the wagons clean. In the late 1970s and early 80s a typical oil wagon quickly gained a filthy appearance from minor spillages during loading.
Eventually British Rail recognised the potential safety hazards created by these trains of dirty, oily wagons and mandated a clean-up, resulting in new liveries recognisable as belonging to a particular company.
