Parkside Dundas O LMS Steel Body Ventilated Goods Van Kit PS10
Kit to build a model of one of the LMS steel bodied ventilated box vans.
These wagons were a serious attempt to construct a strong and robust box van from metal. The extra strength of the material allowed a reduction weight to be achieved. The steel body vans lasted well into the BR era, with a number being preserved.

Parkside Dundas O Southern Railway Banana Van Diag 1/478 Kit PS100
Parkside kits are well designed and easy to build into detailed and good running models.
The chassis is designed with sliding axleboxes, this allows for any distortion created during building to be corrected by the builders' preferred method, be that compensation, allowing the wheels to simply follow the rails under their own weight, or fixing the axleboxes in place once the wagon is set with all four wheels on the rail. Metal wheels and sprung buffers are supplied, along with hand and vacuum brake system details appropriate for the wagon.
These insulated box vans were built for banana traffic but were also used for other traffic when required, including as meat vans and as general traffic box vans.

Parkside Dundas O Southern Railway Insulated Van 1477 Kit PS110
75 Insulated Vans were built in 1931. They were very similar to a batch of refrigerator vans built in 1928, but of course without ice tank and the associated roof hatches. Insulated vans might be used for chilled meat (mostly imported) and banana traffic, when the fruit did not need to be ripened enroute. The carrying capacity was increased to 11 tons in the early 1940's. Examples lasted in traffic into the 1960's.

Parkside Dundas O LMS (LNER, BR) Gunpowder Van PS112

These vans were built in various batches in the 1930's. During the Second World War further building took place with a batch also being made for the LNER. The first BR gunpowder vans were also constructed to this design in the late 1940's and early 1950's. Most lasted in this form until the late 1950's by which time they had been converted to vacuum brake operation. Transfers included for LMS (post 1936 and wartime), LNER and BR.

Parkside Dundas O LNER Toad E 4 Wheel Goods Brake Van PS113
A finely detailed plastic model kit building a model of the LNERs early 'short' type brake vans with pressed steel lookout duckets. These were the LNER standard design of brake van until the introduction of the longer 4-wheel chassis vans with central cabin which became familiar as the British Railways standard.
These short vans are very useful for builders of small O gauge layouts and for local pick-up goods trains.
The LNER introduced this brake van design C1925, being a general update of the previous NER design 15-foot wheelbase goods brake van with robust pressed steel lookout duckets replacing the older designs' wood planking. The LNER allocated the telegraphic code "TOAD E" to the new 'group standard' design, although it was generally similar to the older 'TOAD B'. These vans lasted in service well into the 1960s and a few could be found 'out of use' around the BR network in 1980, though possibly being used as mess vans.
All Parkside kits are made to a high standard, making the kits straightforward to assemble and add extra detail to (a guard figure is available from Springside, while Slaters offer castings for the handbrake and stove) accompanied by detailed instructions with assembly diagrams. Wheels, buffers, 3-link couplings and transfers for early and late LNER and BR ownership are included.

Parkside Dundas PS114 LMS 10-ton Banana Van (LMS diagram 1660)

The LMS constructed 1000 of these vans specially equipped with steam heating and controllable end ventilators between 1925 and 1930 to carry bananas from ports such as Avonmouth, Garston and London, to inland warehouses. The majority of the type remained in service into the 1960s and the first batches of British Railways banana vans used this same basic design. This kit provides a useful addition to the Southern design banana van, kit PS100, particularly for the British Railways era.
Parkside O scale kits are packed with detail, but easy to assemble, and are complete with the wheels and transfers.

Parkside Dundas O BR 21T Coal Wagon Diag 1/107 Kit PS15
Developed from the GWR 20-ton open wagon the BR 21-ton version was intended to be the standard coal wagon. The wagons never proved quite so popular with the domestic trade customers as the smaller 16-ton version and later hoppers too over many bulk coal flows. The 21-tonner remains a distinctive wagon of the early BR era, something different to the ubiqitous 16-tonner.
Parkside have a well deserved reputation for making excellent kits, producing an accurate model which remains easy to assemble well with only basic tools required.

Parkside Dundas PS115 O Gauge LNER 20 ton Goods Brake Van with Wooden Lookout Duckets Toad B Diagram 34

This kit builds a model of the first LNER standard design of good brake van.
Introduced in 1924 the design was derived from the final GNR and NER designs and was designated by telegraph code 'Toad B', most identifiable from later vans by the retention of wooden lookout duckets. Built in Doncaster, 260 examples entered service, lasting until replacement British Railways brake vans entered service in the 1950s. Various modifications took place over the years, this kit best representing prototypes dating from 1928-9.

Parkside has built up a reputation for high-quality kits of the more rarer wagon types, and this one in particular will fill a gap. The kits contain everything the modeller needs except glue, paint and a few tools. Crisply moulded plastic parts, supplemented by metal wheels, bearing cups and three-link couplings, plus transfers.

Parkside Dundas O GWR 20T Steel Loco Coal Wagon Kit PS47
The GWR introduced high-capacity wagons in the early years of the 20th century. This robust 20-ton steel bodied design reduced the number of wagons needed for hauling locomotive coal when compared to the 'new standard' 10-ton capacity wagons of the 1900s.
This kit provides GWR modellers with an ideal wagon for supplying coal to their branchline loco depots.

A beer van is an ideal subject for modellers!
These wagons with slatted sides were used to distribute beer from Burton on Trent, returning with empty kegs.

Horsebox vans were a common sight on Britains' railways until the 1960s. This model kit is the GWR design dating from the 1920s, with a grooms' compartment, large side doors to allow horses to be loaded and unloaded easily and a stowage compartment for fodder.

Equiped with passenger type suspension, vacuum brakes and often steam heating these horseboxes would be conveyed by passenger trains on many branchlines and by secondary trains on the mainline. Long trains of horseboxes were also seen sometimes, especially when a major race meet or polo tournament was imminent!

849 of these vans were built exactly to a Midland railway design (diagram 1240) bewtween 1924 and 1927. They all had hand brake only.It is possible to build diag. 1656 vacuum braked vans of 1926/27 by replacing the sides of this kit with those of PS40 . Contact us for details of extra parts. The LMS had a lot of Midland Railway influence in many of its earlier rolling stock designs not least its Goods Brake Vans. Our models are of types, which although built in the 1920s lasted through LMS times and indeed were quite common until the 1960s, by which time they had also spread into ex LNER areas. Vans transferred to the Cilvil Engineers fleet were still around in the 1970s.

Plastic model kit of the LNER 20-ton wooden bodied locomotive coal wagon.

Steam locomotives have a voracious appetite for coal and delivering this to sheds and depots in 20-ton wagons was more cost-effective than using small capacity wagons. The two sets of side doors helped the coaling crew to empty the wagons quickly when there was heavy demand.

A very good and easy to assemble kit of the BR Pipe wagon.

These wagons had very long lives, proving useful for a wide range of traffics. Although designated as pipe wagons (for the conveyance of finished pipes) the longer frame and full-length drop sides made access by mechanical handling equipment easy. As fork-lift truck loading became widespread the Pipe wagon could be loaded with almost anything! This kept the fleet busy, moving frok one traffic flow to another, until the similarly designed air braked wagons entered service in the late 1970s.

This kit has been designed to replicate the standard BR Plate wagon design. The kit can be built to model the LNER design with fully welded construction, or the revised BR standard part welded type. The low sides of these wagons were built strong enough to retain the load, but only a few inches high to prevent overloading.

Intended to carry steel sheet or plates many sheet steel components could also be carried. The wagons proved versatile in service and often saw use as flat wagons conveying road vehicles and farm implements.

These large 24½-ton open wagons were intended to be the standard bulk coal wagons under the BR ideal stock plan, being the heaviest 2-axle wagons which could be granted near-universal route clearance. Where clearance wasn't available however was under the screens of many collierys. While the slightly lower 21-ton wagons proliferated this 24½ type was built in limited numbers and frequently made a nuscience of themselves by getting mixed in with the 21-tonners when going somewhere they wouldn't fit!

This kit is a welcome addition to the Parkside range, allowing another different wagon to be built and providing more interesting coal trains.

Parkside Dundas O BR 16T Mineral Wagon (Ex SNCF) Diag 1/112 Kit PS32
A superb kit from Parkside to build the unusual 'SNCF' version of the 16-ton steel bodied mineral wagon.
These wagons were built for use in France in the immediate aftermath of WWII, but were of typical British size and capacity and not fitted with train brakes, totally unlike the larger and air braked wagons which were normally operated by the continental European railways. Almost all were returned to Britain as the SNCF built or aquired new wagons to its own specifications.

The unfamiliar european type cupboard doors and locking mechanism caused difficulties in Britain and these wagons were usually deployed as 'general service' open wagons rather than in coal and mineral traffic. The warning lettering applied by the engineers department after an accident due to imporperly secured doors on a spoil train is included on the decal sheet.

Marketed by the GWR through the offer of reduced haulage rates the 20-ton steel open wagon began the trend towards the use of higher capacity wagons.

This kit builds a model of the standard GWR 'Felix Pole' 20-ton open wagon. These were purchased by private owners and leased from the GWR by several collieries in the late 1930s.

Some of these wagons also operated in locomotive coal service, however as the loco department had it's own design of 20-tonners (kit PS47) these 'traffic' wagons may have been temporarily hijacked!.
