In the mid-1980s British Rail moved to a 'business oriented' managment structure with the objective of focusing railway managment teams on the needs of each business area. Locomotives and rolling stock were allocated to each business sector, giving a clear overview of the costs of operation.
Each sector developed it's own indentity and livery, with InterCity using coloured bands to accentuate the length of trains and give an impression of speed, while the freight groups used grey bands and colourful logos, often designed to incorporate a letter F, to show the sponsoring business unit. It certainly brightened up the railway after years of the mundane corporate blue.
Bachmann 31-651DB OO Gauge BR 47832 Tamar Class 47Locomotive Intercity Mainline Livery

** Midlands Region Representatives' Exclusive Model **

Bachmanns' model of British Rails all-purpose class 47 locomotives feature a detailed bodyshell with tooling able to recreate many of the changes made to the roof grilles (eg changed radiator vents) and ends modified due to repairs and modifications. Separately fitted parts allow for equipment changes like brake systems and ETH cabling to be applied correctly to each model. Inside the shell a heavy diecast chassis and centrally mounted motor driving all six axles provides weight and power for hauling realistic trains with ease.

This model of 47832 Tamar recreates the locomotive circa 1990, allocated to Bristol Bath Road shed and used on the long-distance cross-country services from the south and west of England to the north, with services between Penzance, Plymouth, Bournemouth and Brighton connecting via Birmingham to Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. The 47/8 locomotives carried the general service 'Mainline' version of the InterCity stripe livery, with most later receiving swallow logos. Era 8.
